Schwerpunktfachwoche der G5c in Dublin

Our week in Dublin was a whirlwind of history, laughter and the occasional rain shower (which, I now believe, is just Ireland’s way of saying “welcome”). I feel like the city’s energy pulled us in more and more throughout the week. A mixture of live music, old brick buildings and the friendliest, wittiest people you’ll ever meet.
We started with a walking tour, which was both educational and a great way to see the city come alive through stories, interactions and unexpected discoveries around every corner. Exploring the Temple Bar area almost felt like stepping into a postcard with all the colourful pubs, cobblestone streets and Christmas-like lights.
The Jeanie Johnston Museum gave us a sobering but fascinating glimpse into Ireland’s emigrant history, reminding us that the city’s cheerful atmosphere is built on stories of resilience.
One unexpected highlight was the Leprechaun Museum, where we discovered that Irish folklore is as quirky as it is magical. The theatre play “What are you afraid of” was another standout moment as it was emotional, thought-provoking and funny, all at once.
We also went on a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher, which left us speechless, and slightly windblown, as we got to stand on the edge of Ireland’s dramatic coastline, looking out over the endless Atlantic.
Of course, we also managed to squeeze in some “serious” cultural research, also known as shopping and spent evenings connecting with Irish locals and students from other countries at the hotel. Those conversations turned out to be just as valuable as any museum visit.
All in all, you could say our week in Dublin was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A combination of learning, connecting and some good craic, the kind you can only find in Ireland. Sláinte!
